I think everyone can agree with me when they say living in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania is boring and there is nothing to do.
Well I'm here to show you that the east coast is home to some of the best hikes. Some of them include hikes with stunning waterfalls and incredible views. If you take these hikes, you'll see why the East Coast can be just as beautiful as taking a vacation out of the states.
5 of the Best Hikes on the East Coast
1.) The first hike you need to explore is Ricketts Glenn State Park, located in Pennsylvania. While taking the hike you'll walk along 22 stunning waterfalls. The tallest one being Ganoga Falls, which is 94 feet high.
2.) Next on the list is Mount Tammany, located in Columbia, New Jersey. This hike overlooks the Delaware Water Gap. Although the hike to the top is rigorous and tough, the view at the end is incredible. If you are brave enough, stay until sunset time and hike down in the dark. It's a great spot to watch the sunset.
3.) Watkins Glen State Park, in New York is one of my all-time favorites. This state park makes you feel like you are in a different country. It is one of the most famous of the Finger Lake State Parks. Along the two-mile hike there are 19 waterfalls cascading into gorges. You can also camp on the grounds if you want to stay overnight.
4.) Kaaterskill Falls is another amazing hike worth adding to your bucket list. It is located in the Catskills, New York. The hike leads you to an incredible waterfall with two tiers that are over 260 feet. If you choose to go on this hike, it is so important to stay on the trails, as the trail is slippery, and you can get close to the edge of the waterfall. If you don't feel like hiking all the way to the bottom you can just go to the overlook and see the most beautiful view.
5.) The fifth hike on the list is Taughannock Falls State Park in New York. It is one of the tallest single drop waterfalls on the East Coast towering 215 feet. This hike is one of the easier ones, being that it is just a straight walk to the falls.
6.) Number 6 on the list is Buttermilk Falls State Park in Ithaca, New York. This location is perfect for someone who wants to cool off on a hot day. At the end of the hike there is a swimmable waterfall that cascades into a natural pool with a lifeguard, so you can safely swim. The hike is a long a gorge trail and has several beautiful waterfalls to stop out. You need to be careful and jump in at your own risk, if you are caught you can get a fine. Please jump at your own risk.
7.) Last but not least is Green Lake State Park. This place is a perfect family spot for camping. Whether you have an RV, tent or want to stay in a cabin, Green Lake State Park has it all. This park is extremely unique because the water is blue and crystal clear. When visiting you need to be extremely careful where to swim. It is tempting to swim wherever you want, however there is only designated areas. If you are caught swimming in an unsupervised location, you will be kicked out. Camping spots fill up quick and are usually sold out the entire summer. Grab your friends and enjoy this amazing spot!
